Slovenian Marine Industry Association

WHAT: The Slovenian Marine Industry Association (SMIA) is the point of contact for the Slovenian nautical industry. This is a professional association of companies that provide products and services in this sector, and contribute to the export of Slovenian know-how.

WHY: SMIA was founded as a logical consequence of the several years’ joint participation of Slovenian companies at METS – the largest marine equipment fair in the world, offering equipment for boats, shipyards and marinas. SMIA facilitates efficient cooperation within the frame of the International Council of Marine Industry Associations (ICOMIA), the basic task of which is to connect national or regional associations with a focus on the nautical industry.

HOW:In the second half of the last year, the founding members finalised the code of association and formally signed it at METS 2016 in the presence of Slovenian ambassador to The Netherlands, HE Roman Kirn.

The SMIA code of conduct rests on four pillars: honesty, readiness for cooperation, responsibility and general interest. The basic goal is defined in terms of increasing the export of products and services, as provided by members as individual companies and the association as a whole.

SMIA provides assistance in dealing with the challenges faced by Slovenian companies in foreign markets, represents them in front of state institutions, helps in creating business rules, and so forth. In the long term, SMIA works to increase the visibility of Slovenian know-how in the nautical industry, and consequently giving higher added value to the products and services exported by this sector.

To date, the following companies have joined SMIA:
